Personal Worship
This week we look towards Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week as Jesus enters Jerusalem.
Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.
As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.
Prayer of Approach
Lord, as I approach your throne today remind me that you are the King of Kings who came to meet his people on this earth. You are the God who desires to have a relationship with us. At this time meet with me afresh again.
I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 18:
I love you, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised,
and I am saved from my enemies.
Psalm 18:1-3
As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
Zechariah 9:9
And when he had said these things, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. When he drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount that is called Olivet, he sent two of the disciples, saying, “Go into the village in front of you, where on entering you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever yet sat. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘The Lord has need of it.’” So those who were sent went away and found it just as he had told them. And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” And they said, “The Lord has need of it.” And they brought it to Jesus, and throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it.

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

An odd scene as Jesus approaches Jerusalem. Jesus tells his disciples to go grab him someone’s colt. I imagine much to the disciples’ surprise it works. The King of Kings is entering the city where he will die. He enters not in extravagance, but in humility. Jesus knowing what this city and its people will do to him continues his journey anyway.
Lord, I ask that you show me how to respond when I am met with the direction that the Lord has need of it. Show me what it looks like to respond accordingly.
Lord, revive the fire inside of me. Fill me with your Spirit in a way that is contagious to those around me. Meet your people in a supernatural way again. Bring light into the darkness of this world. Make your glory known in this world.
As I read the passage for the final time, I listen for how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer
Lord, give me a heart like this unknown colt owner. Let my heart see that you don’t need me like I need things. Instead, you invite me to be a part of what you are doing on this earth. Let me be quick to say yes to what you have for me in all things.
Yielding Promise
And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Galatians 2:
For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:19-20
Closing Prayer
Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
