The
Heart Behind
Family Worship

Family Worship is a devotional plan which equips your family to build upon the gospel truths your child learns Sunday in children’s church

We include scripture, questions, and a prayer for you and your child to engage with throughout the week. It is our goal to give you tools to help model a personal worship practice for your children.

Unit 33 • Session 1

Paul Became a Christian

Big Picture Unit Question:

Who can be saved? Anyone who trusts in Jesus can be forgiven of their sins and be right with God.

Christ Connection:

Jesus appeared to Saul and changed him inside and out. Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. (1 Timothy 1:15) Jesus called Saul, who was once an enemy to Christians, to spend the rest of his life telling people the gospel and leading them to trust in Jesus.

Preschool Bible Story

Elementary Bible Story

On his 30th birthday, Dean Karnazes decided to go for a nighttime jog. Without training or a plan, Dean continued to run until the sun came up and realized he had run over 30 miles! Dean found a new life as a runner. He went on to run a marathon in all 50 states—and did it in just 50 days! Dean described that nighttime jog as a life-changing moment.

Dean’s life-changing moment is nothing compared to the life change that happened when Paul met Jesus! Paul was against the followers of Jesus, and he tried to do everything he could to stop the message of Jesus from spreading. Then, Jesus stopped Paul on the road to Damascus and changed him.

After Jesus appeared to him, Paul lived with a different purpose. Instead of trying to stop the message of Jesus, Paul stood in the city and told everyone that Jesus is the Son of God! Paul went on to share the good news of the gospel with many people. Everyone was amazed by the change Jesus made on Paul’s life.

When we believe in Jesus, our lives are forever changed. First, we are made right with God and enjoy the promise of eternal life with Him. Second, we are given the power and opportunity to tell others about Jesus. Knowing Jesus truly is life-changing!

Jesus appeared to Saul and changed him inside and out. Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. (1 Timothy 1:15) Jesus called Saul, who was once an enemy to Christians, to spend the rest of his life telling people the gospel and leading them to trust in Jesus.

Questions:

1) What caused Saul to change?

Remind kids that Saul did nothing in his own power to change. Discuss how Jesus changed Saul and even though he became physically blind, he truly was able to see and believe who Jesus is. Lead kids to remember that we are never too sinful for Jesus to save us. Anyone who trusts in Jesus can be forgiven of their sins and be right with God.

2) It took courage for Ananias to obey God and go to Saul. How can we have courage to obey God even when it might be hard or scary?

Discuss how God never calls us to do something that isn’t ultimately for our good. Discuss how we can have courage as we trust God’s character and believe that He always wants what is best for us. Tell kids that Ananias had an opportunity to see the power of God and how He can truly save anyone.

3) How has God changed you? What are ways you can ask God to change you?

Answers will vary. Encourage kids to remember that we are all sinful and that when we trust in Jesus, He does begin to change us. Challenge kids to think about how they need God’s grace to help them be more like Jesus. Invite kids to learn more about how they can be changed through saving faith in Christ.

Pray:

Jesus, we know that our only hope is in You. You had the power to change Paul’s heart and call him to follow You. We want to know You so that you can change us from the inside out. Amen.
