Family Worship

Family Worship is a devotional plan which equips your family to build upon the gospel truths your child learns Sunday in children’s church

We include scripture, questions, and a prayer for you and your child to engage with throughout the week. It is our goal to give you tools to help model a personal worship practice for your children.

Unit 32 • Session 3

Gentiles Became Part of the Church

Big Picture Unit Question:

What is the church? The church is all Christians everywhere, who gather together in their communities to worship and serve God.

Christ Connection:

Even though some people tried to stop it, the gospel spread throughout the earth—not only to Jews but also to Gentiles. The good news about Jesus is for everyone. God calls us to celebrate when others believe and help them know and love Jesus more.

Preschool Bible Story

Elementary Bible Story

Have you ever tried to stop yourself from blinking? It’s impossible! The average person blinks 15 to 20 times every minute, and blinking is necessary to clean and protect our eyes. No matter how hard you try, you will eventually blink. It’s unstoppable!

The book of Acts tells us what happened after Jesus ascended into Heaven and left His followers with the mission to make disciples. As the apostles and other followers of Jesus continued to share the good news about Jesus, the spread of the gospel was unstoppable!

The message of Jesus went out across the world. As people believed in Jesus, they formed churches. One of the churches was in a city named Antioch. This was the place where believers were first called Christians. Barnabas traveled to Antioch to celebrate what God was doing and to encourage the Jews and Gentiles who had believed in Jesus. They celebrated as more and more people came to believe in Jesus.

Even though some people tried to stop it, the gospel spread throughout the earth—not only to Jews but also to Gentiles. The good news about Jesus is for everyone. God calls us to celebrate when others believe and help them know and love Jesus more.

Questions:

1) How were the Gentiles saved?

Remind kids that Gentiles were saved just as the Jewish believers were: by faith in Jesus. Discuss how the Bible records how the Gentiles repented of sin, turned to Jesus, and were given the Holy Spirit.

2) Do you rejoice when others trust in Jesus? Why?

Answers will vary. Discuss how the greatest event that can happen in anyone’s life is to trust in Jesus as his or her Savior. Tell kids that salvation is more special than birthdays, vacations, getting new toys, etc. Encourage kids to celebrate and praise God when they hear about someone trusting in Jesus.

3) The church in Antioch grew after Barnabas arrived and encouraged the believers there. Why do you think the church grew after Barnabas encouraged the believers in Antioch?

Discuss how Barnabas encouraged the believers to remain true to the Lord with devoted hearts. Explain that one way we can show we are devoted to God is by being obedient to His command to share the good news of Jesus with others. Discuss how sharing the gospel is how the church grows as others hear and believe the good news.

Pray:

Lord Jesus, thank you for giving us the mission to tell others about You. Give us opportunities to share the gospel with others and help us to celebrate when they believe in the good news! Amen.

For just as the body is one and has many parts, and all the parts of that body, though many, are one body—so also is Christ.
